The Himba wear little clothing, but the women are famous for covering themselves with otjize, a mixture of butter fat and ochre. The mixture gives their skins a reddish tinge. This symbolizes earth’s rich red color and the blood that symbolizes life, and is consistent with the Himba ideal of beauty.

It also protects their skin from the harsh sun.

It’s also to keep them clean because they live in parts where water is scarce and drinking > bathing. As the otjize flakes off, dirt and dead skin go with it.

The Himba also use it to style their hair, and different headwear is worn during different stages of a female’s life to symbolize her becoming a woman.

I will forever reblog this because I find it so damn beautiful.

I’ve been staring at this for 5 minutes

That’s what it looks like. That’s really what it looks like

Being out in the ocean is actually so scary because when you look really far out you can kind of see how the Earth is rounded out. It looks like a few miles ahead you’re just gonna fall off or something.

Also fun trick: if ur on mobile, double tap zoom in and slide the picture side to side. It looks like you’re actually there looking left to right

DO THAT DO IT RIGHT NOW

SU INFOGRAPHICS -  Fusion List | GEM FUSIONS | GEMSTONESGEMS | HUMANS

Part 4 of my reference list! Links to all reference graphics are in links above.

ALL Images in this set are taken from the Steven Universe Wiki, specifically the gemstone page. Thank you to all the people who made these assets! Pictures are divided into four sections: individual gems, fusion gems, corrupted or shard gems, and other. As more gems show up, I might update and alter as needed :)

This might be a good reference for you if you’re deciding to draw gems for your gemsonas or other fanart.
